Surprisingly, it was very helpful just to get these thoughts sorted out enough to make a semi-coherent post. I think I've made peace with some of the issues and have a few ideas for next steps. Hopefully this all works.
Don't be surprised if this entry (and a few other venty ones) disappears over time.
